We shouldn’t be blamed, for the parents we have, or what they’ve achieved in life. Any parent that’s done well for themselves, would normally want to help their children, give them a start in life. Bringing them into the business they might own, or, setting them up in a business of their own. Offering guidance where needed, along with any other assistance that might help.I’ve spoken to many friends about this subject, they often ask, why wouldn’t I want my son/daughter to work alongside me? Adding, they’ll learn everything they need to know, I’m not having them ruin the business. The downside to being in a business with a family member, you can and will talk to each other, argue and say things, you wouldn’t legally be allowed to say to anyone else in that business. You won’t leave it at the office, it’ll be ‘discussed’ over dinner, lunch and at weekends. There can be a feeling of, a lack of achievement in our lives. Also, it might be something we fell into, not something we always wanted. It’s fantastic when I hear people saying, self made, there seems to be little realisation, it has to start somewhere. They will likely be looking forward to a member of their own family, maybe taking over one day. When the comment comes, and it will, you’ve been given everything. Either we should ignore it, which can be difficult, or politely say, I’m doing nothing you wouldn’t have done.
