20 Years in a Successul Business.
Being a partner in a new business venture in my late teens,
was obviously an exciting prospect.
We, as the new directors/owners, had worked together in
another company providing similar solutions for multinational
large, medium, and small businesses.
At first, it seemed we worked together for the greater good
of our business, to grow our customer base, as we provided
professional solutions to enhance our and our clients' profitability.
As with any business or relationship in life, there is the matter
of interpersonal relationships, and particularly with high achievers
in high-pressure environments, a need for control.
Together, we built a business from nothing into a 7-figure
well-respected, client-focused business, which was described
on many occasions, it punched well above its weight.
Since I decided to change my life in 2014, I have spent a great
deal of time reflecting on our business, why I wouldn't walk away
from it, even though the environment had been toxic for many years.
I discuss the dynamics, the politics of business, and how to
clients/customers, competitors, a business seems highly functioning.
When in reality, the high achievers who own the business, or have a great career
in a successful business, are the ones who are highly functioning, while at the same time
being stuck in a functional freeze, locked in sympathetic dominance.
(ANS) Autonomic Nervous System. mindset, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being
are of paramount importance if you are to navigate these environments.
It is clear in our business, as with many companies we dealt with, that chronic stress,
anxiety, frustration, control, forcing, and a need for dominance were part of the daily routine.
Many discuss how they have built successful businesses, but what they don't talk about is doing this
while the people involved don't paddle in the same direction.
Blame each other for the way the individual feels, without taking responsibility for themselves.
When any member of the "team" is functioning in functional freeze, they cannot be performing
anywhere near their potential, but I know, if you are reading this, YOU are still performing better than most.
Walking away from my business was the best decision I could have made for my health and well-being.
I was only able to do this after I'd decided to change on the level of identity.
Previously, it would have been impossible because I didn't understand who I would be without
the business, my title, the money, and status.
Having regulated my nervous system, dealt with my emotional baggage,
changed my mindset, grown spiritually, and interacted with my business partners,
on this higher level of consciousness and awareness, I understood that they, or the environment
wasn't going to change.
In 2019, I agreed to the sale of the business, as opposed to taking on the shares I'd been
fighting over for 20 years, I'd finally found myself underneath all the pain and conditioning.
